The DiMenna Center for Classical Music (map)
This concert, titled “Artists' Journey,” underscores ICOA’s core values: innovative performance, storytelling, and cultural confluence. The concert will feature Vitali’s Chaconne with French violinist Virgil Boutellis-Taft in his ICOA debut and immersive classical music experience that brings the audience inside the orchestra.
“Artists' Journey” traces the internal struggle of an artist through varied repertoire spanning a wide spectrum of moods and styles. The performance will bring together disparate repertoire in the service of a unified story, chronicling a transformation of life and spirit as the first half’s struggle and anguish give way to the heroism and love of the second. Beethoven’s brooding Fifth Symphony opens the program, its harrowing fate motive knocking on the artist’s door to begin his own journey through a life devoted to creation.
In light of the program’s focus on the internal, the concert will realize literally the metaphor of listening from inside: audience members will be invited to sit between musicians, thus experiencing the performance from inside the orchestra. This immersive opportunity will create a truly participatory performance experience that transcends listening from afar, allowing audience members a rare and personal glimpse into the breath, tension and chemistry that fuel every note. By the end of the concert, the audience will have completed a journey of its own and will share the creative process from the best seat in the house.
